Overview

The staple Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG HSM has been redesigned and reengineered to set a new standard for the Art line. With a large 1.4 aperture, the Sigma 50mm 1.4 prime lens is a pro level performer for shooting everything including portrait photography, landscape photography, studio photography and street photography. A Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures quiet, smooth and accurate autofocusing and paired with Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass and Super Multi-Layer coating, the 50mm 1.4 is a high performance lens for the modern DSLR sensors. 13 elements in 8 groups allow for unsurpassed performance even at wide apertures and close-up photography is easily managed with a minimum focusing distance of 40cm. The Sigma 50mm 1.4 lens is the new exceptional standard, standard prime.

USB Dock Compatibility Sigma has developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus.

All lenses features a T*® antireflective coating from ZEISS. Outstanding stray light reduction is achieved by combining a number of optimally matched measures. In addition to the ZEISS T* coating, all lens edges are provided with a special pitch-black lacquer in a complex manual process. Light traps in mechanical components and specially designed surfaces are integrated to prevent the occurrence of reflections. Each focal length has its own individual optical design with the use of special types of glass displaying anomalous partial dispersion. This reduces the occurrence of color fringes at high-contrast edges of subjects to an absolute minimum.

The new Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens incorporates an unique optical design with an apodization (APD) element next to the aperture. The APD element resembles the function of an ND filter which becomes thicker towards the perimeter, gradually reducing the amount of light transmission towards the periphery to produce a soft, natural and beautifully diffused out-of-focus rendition (or called bokeh).

Dual Aperture Ring for still and motion shooting

The new Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens offers two separate diaphragms. The stepless 14-bladed perfectly circular aperture, in conjunction with the apodization element gives this lens the ability to produce smooth and pleasing bokeh. It is also useful for videographers to control the amount of light passes through the lens. The 8-bladed aperture is to determine the effective aperture opening (f-number) and the depth-of-field formed.

Optical performance that defines the ultimate Tamron lens ever made

We endeavored to achieve ultra-high quality where every shape is captured with perfect fidelity. So we meticulously eradicated any optical aberrations that could reduce image quality. In particular, we have eliminated the on-axis chromatic aberrations that plague fast-aperture lenses, and the sagittal coma flares that reduce peripheral image quality. This is accomplished by deploying 14 elements in 10 groups, a dense arrangement for a fixed focal lens. The optical construction includes a generous arrangement of special glasses, four LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements and three GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements.

Leveraging Tamron’s experience creating beautiful bokeh

The Model F045 produces genuinely beautiful bokeh defocus blur both in front of and behind the plane of focus, a characteristic shared with Tamron’s legendary 90mm F/2.8 macro lens. The major difference is the fast F/1.4 aperture. Normally, as the lens aperture opens subtle on-axis chromatic aberration appears as color fringe. So we created a countermeasure to thoroughly overcome these deficiencies and produce bokeh that blends in beautifully without introducing aberrant color in front of or behind the focal plane.
