The main feature of this lens is its broad 16.6x zoom ratio, the world’s first¹ for an APS-C size mirrorless interchangeable lens when it was released in 2021. It covers a focal length of 18-300mm², allowing you to take a wide range of photos from wide-angle to super-telephoto. In particular, this all-in-one zoom with its 300mm super-telephoto reach is useful in a wide range of situations, from vast landscapes and everyday snapshots to portraits, as well as animals, birds, sports and kids’ events. At the 18mm wide end, the lens attains an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.15m (5.9 in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2. With an amazing working distance of 5mm (0.2 in)⁴, you can get as close as you want to your subject while capturing the background and take a photographic expression unique to wide macro photography.

The 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VC provides superbly high resolution created through TAMRON’s persistent pursuit of outstanding image quality. The optical construction includes several special lens elements, specifically four LD (Low Dispersion) and three hybrid aspherical lens elements. These elements help to produce clear, sharp images from the center to the corners. Chromatic aberration and other optical aberrations are well corrected. In addition, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating suppresses ghosting and flare, which commonly occur in backlit scenes. Throughout the entire zoom range, the 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VC provides both high image quality and soft creamy bokeh.

TAMRON’s Proprietary VC Supports Telephoto and Low-Light Shooting

This lens is equipped with TAMRON’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism to minimize the effect of camera-shake, which is likely to occur in the telephoto range. Tamron continues to innovate in response to evolving photography needs, releasing subsequent models such as the SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 (Model 272E) and the SP 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD (Model F004). In 2016, TAMRON launched the SP 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD (Model F017), which is an evolution of the Model F004. Digital-compatible layering technology, combined with soft, natural bokeh and sharp rendering results, continues to resonate with many photographers today.

Now, 45 years after the original version was released, Tamron has announced a mirrorless version of the optic that it says combines the performance expected from its predecessor lens with cutting-edge technology.

As a macro lens, the 90mm f/2.8 has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:1, a minimum object distance of 9.1 inches (0.23 meters), and promises highly corrected optics to produce the superior flat-field resolution that is said to be ideal (and necessary) for documents, currency, artwork, and product packaging.

“This quality is especially important when shooting close-ups where the depth of field is too shallow to counteract the loss of sharpness that can occur at the extreme edges of flat subjects,” says Tamron. “Because it is highly corrected, this lens provides edge-to-edge sharpness, uniform illumination across the frame, and minimal distortion.”

The 28-300mm F/4-7.1 Di III VC VXD (Model A074) is a new challenge for TAMRON, a pioneer in all-in-one zoom lenses. Its greatest feature is the zoom range that extends 10.7x. Responding to feedback from all-in-one zoom lens users wanting to enjoy shooting with greater telephoto reach, TAMRON designed the lens to start at 28mm at the wide end, with a newly expanded reach to 300mm at the telephoto end. We have pursued a filter size of φ67mm that fits in the hands of many users despite the 300mm zoom range. This single lens handles a wide range of shooting situations and provides multiple angles of view suitable for landscapes, snapshots, portraits, sports, daily life, day by day seasonal changes, travel and photographs enhanced by the compression effects that occur at telephoto range. The 28-300mm F4-7.1 VC features an optical construction of 20 elements in 13 groups to deliver high image quality and high resolution. Because of an optical design that includes one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and one LD (Low Dispersion) special lens element, chromatic aberration and other artifacts are efficiently controlled. As an all-in-one zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, the lens boasts class-leading high image quality. This lens features TAMRON’s BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating to suppress ghosting and flare, producing distinct, clear images even in backlit conditions. These features support the free creation of works that are not influenced by shooting position.

Despite covering a wide range of focal lengths from 28mm at the wide end to 300mm at the telephoto end (10.7x zoom overall), the 28-300mm F4-7.1 VC is portable with a length of just 126mm (5in) and a light weight of 610g (21.5oz). This lens is also recommended for those who want to keep their bag small and lightweight, as the lens is easy to take with you, even as a second lens, wherever you go and does not tire you out after long periods of shooting. In addition, users can enjoy wide macro photography with an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5in) at the 28mm wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.8, making this lens extremely versatile. Furthermore, the lens makes it easy to frame accurately when shooting still and moving images while zooming in and out, such as sports and wildlife, and is designed to be comfortable to use.

The fastest and most accurate AF in TAMRON’s history overturns the stereotype of all-in-one zoom lenses having slow autofocus and is optimized to assure that users do not miss good photo opportunities. As the lens is extremely quiet and features excellent focus tracking for moving objects, it performs well when shooting both still images and video in a broad range of situations, including conditions that require silence, moving subjects such as sports activities, airplane, wild birds—the list goes on and on. This TAMRON zoom lens delivers excellent close-up shooting performance with an MOD of 0.22m (8.7in) for a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 50mm wide end. The 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC is equipped with TAMRON’s VC mechanism to effectively suppress camera shake that tends to occur when shooting in the telephoto range while capturing moving objects and during close-focusing. This outstanding stability frees you to concentrate on shooting with peace of mind. As the full-frame equivalent focal length is 75-450mm when shooting with an APS-C camera, the VC mechanism especially demonstrates its strengths on the telephoto side. The VC can also reduce the degradation of picture quality when shooting in conditions prone to camera shake, such as dimly lit interiors, moody indoor portraits, and low-light conditions such as early morning or evening landscapes. Moreover, using AI technologies at focal lengths of 100mm or less, the lens selects the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography to powerfully support the inherent high optical performance of the lens.

Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility™ software

The 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for computers and Android™ ³ OS) that was developed in-house by TAMRON⁴. This software allows various lens and camera settings to be assigned to the Focus Set Button located on the lens. Also, the lens’ firmware⁵ can be updated to the latest version. In addition, when using the mobile version, functions unique to the mobile version can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Users may customize functions for various still photography and videography shooting styles, thereby providing a more personalized and fulfilling shooting experience.

Lenses in this series feature small and light designs ideal for pairing with mirrorless cameras, and the filter diameter of each lens is the same 67mm. In addition to providing excellent portability when carrying multiple lenses, costly Polarizers, ND and other filters can be used interchangeably. Plus, the hassle of looking for different-sized lens caps when switching lenses has been eliminated.
